The Gate House is located within the Garrison walls on St Mary’s, the largest of the Isles of Scilly. A perfect base for exploring the unrivalled natural beauty of the islands.
The Gate House nestles against the Elizabethan Garrison walls and has a private and sheltered courtyard garden to the rear with stairs leading to a higher level seating area with a sea view. Garden furniture, and barbecue are provided.
The Gate House was constructed in the early 17th century and as the name suggests, was originally constructed adjacent to the main gated entrance to the fortified garrison area. The Gate House is adjacent to our other holiday cottage on St Mary’s, The Guard House.
The interior of the cottage has been carefully refurbished to retain the traditional character of the property whilst providing a beautifully furnished and equipped base for an enjoyable holiday.
Gatehouse Cottage is small but beautifully formed and comprises a kitchen / dining room with access to the rear courtyard garden and sitting room with staircase to the first floor.
Beautifully furnished with oak floors, subtle lighting, fire place with wood burning stove and high quality soft furnishings. Flat screen TV with DVD player and hi-fi. A selection of DVDs, games and books are supplied. The sitting room has a glazed door leading directly to the rear courtyard garden.
The traditional painted kitchen has slate work tops and has been comprehensively equipped with dishwasher, combined washing machine and tumble dryer, fridge, freezer, cooker with ceramic hob, oven and all conceivable cookware, crockery, glassware, cook books etc.
An open staircase from the sitting room leads to the bedrooms on the first floor. There are two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with two single beds. The double bedroom has a half glazed door leading to the garden terrace.
The bathroom is located on the first floor, has traditional sanitary ware, bath with shower over, wash basin and w.c. The bathroom has a heated towel rail and recessed lighting.
The Gate House has electric heating and towels and linen are provided. All electricity and heating including logs are included in the tariff, together with a welcome pack and complimentary toiletries.
We regret that pets cannot be accommodated and smoking within the house is not permitted.
