Gatehouse Cottage is a charming, beautifully refurbished property nestled against the Elizabethan Garrison walls above Hugh Town on St Mary’s.
Gatehouse Cottage was constructed in the early-17th century and as its name suggests, was originally adjacent to the Garrison’s main gated entrance. It also lies next to one of our other St Mary’s holiday cottages, The Guard House.
The sitting room is perfect for relaxing at the end of a busy day, with a cosy wood burner in a granite fireplace and comfortable contemporary furniture. For quiet evenings, there’s a TV and DVD player, books and board games. A glazed door leads outside to a sheltered, private courtyard garden.
In the dining kitchen you’ll find an electric cooker with double oven and ceramic hob, a fridge freezer, washer dryer, dishwasher and an excellent stock of modern cookware, crockery, glassware and cookbooks. From here, a door leads to the rear courtyard garden.
The cottage’s double bedroom with king size bed and its twin bedroom both feature comfortable beds with Egyptian cotton bed linen. Please note, there is restricted ceiling height along the landing.
A family bathroom has a bath with overhead shower, a WC, wash basin and heated towel rail.
Gatehouse Cottage is tucked against the Elizabethan Garrison walls and has a private and sheltered courtyard garden, with stairs leading to a higher level seating area with a sea view. Garden furniture and a barbecue are provided.
“Gatehouse is perfect in every way, it is quirky and comfortable, has a hidden courtyard which is a real sun trap and so many lovely touches making this such a happy holiday.”
