The Story of Emily shines a light on an inspirational Cornish woman who defied the social norms of the Victorian era and changed the lives of thousands of women and children during the Second Anglo-Boer War.
Explore Emily’s childhood home, a beautifully restored Victorian house set in 1875, where the Hobhouse household comes to life. Discover architectural marvels and warm hospitality at our Restaurant, where the deep ties between South Africa and the late 1800s are celebrated with thoughtfully reimagined heritage dishes.
In the War Rooms, you’ll walk through an immersive journey honouring Emily’s extraordinary impact during the Second Anglo-Boer War—a story of resilience and compassion that continues to inspire.

You must be a guest of the Duchy of Cornwall Holiday Cottages and only valid for guests staying at our properties.
Please pre-book your visit, a link will be sent with your pre-arrival email. The War Rooms are not suitable for children under 12.
To redeem the exclusive Day Pass rate of just £15 per person, please take with you a copy of your booking confirmation email and provide photo ID, i.e. a valid driving licence.
